Beautiful paved lanes, clubhouse, pool, library, video library, lounge, laundry and showers. We were lucky to have found a rental spot for the season. This campground is 20-25 minutes to Mom's house or 15-20 minutes to Calgary City Limits. Being so close to Calgary and home, we are thinking that will would make a great home base as we spend the year travelling in our Motorhome. Come out for a visit, we would love to see you!

Easy to navigate campground with large pull through sites. We did not need to unhook the Jeep, easy in and out in the morning. Due to the long travel day, we arrived at the campground around midnight and left at 9 in the morning. We did not get to check out the campground at all, just got a good nights rest, When we woke up in the morning, the snow was starting to fall. Gad we made it thought the passes without snow! The weather was getting worse so we left Great Falls and as we made our way north the snow quit. Glad we had a good travel day back to Canada. Home at last!

Close to so many things to see and do. I really enjoyed Utah as there is so much to do outdoors. We had great weather and a few days over 30 degrees Celsius. I would stay here again, as it's a good home base to all the things to see and do in the area. Be sure to visit Zion National Park - WOW!

This resort is beautiful and we will stay here again. I would like to stay for a full month next time, if possible. We were luck to have met up with our friends Penny, Jo Lynn, Alesya and my nephew Christian and his fiancee Courtney. Vegas was a lot of fun and I cannot wait to return.

- Food Trucks, Beer Tasting, Activities
- 20 min to Cottonwood, 40 min to Jerome, 40 Min to Sedona, 60 min to Flagstaff and 2.5 hours to Grand Canyon
The property is very well laid out and has multiple bath/shower locations in the park. It is conveniently located close to the highway and there is a Starbucks and car wash close by. We travelled into Cottonwood for groceries and Chinese Food one night. Be sure to visit Jerome, the local bannock/fry bread (on the reserve) and Montezuma's Castle and Well. We loved the spot, as it was so convenient to get to Sedona and sightsee in the areas. Funny thing, I have driven past this place a few times on the way to Sedona and never knew it existed. I am glad we found it, we will be back. TIP: you need to use a card to load funds onto, to use the laundry facilities. If you are only doing one or two loads, ask to borrow a card from housekeeping. We did and it worked well.

- Pool, Laundry and dog area (not great)
- Far from Mesa as you are literally on the far edge of Apache Junction
This KOA is on the east edge of Apache Junction and is about a 35 minute drive to PHX airport. There are restaurants, food stores and shopping within 1.5 miles of the campground. The campground has crushed granite for the parking pad and camp site and is dusty. We upgraded to a patio site as the weather was forecasted to be 26 deg C. We used some of our KOA points for $50 off our stay. I would stay here agin as it has great access to the rural areas and I can get to the airport in reasonable time. I think some people will find this to be too far outside of Scottsdale/Phoenix area.

I have seen people raving about the Solo Stove on social media and I must say, there are right. The Solo Stove is a pretty neat fire pit that is smokeless and comes in many sizes and colours. What attracted us to the Solo Stove is they have a convenient table top size that is easy to store under the motorhome. You should use hardwood pellets or hardwood chopped up to fuel the stove, check out the cool videos on-line.

- Onsite restaurant, bar, pools, dog park, activities and entertainment. There is lots to do here.
This KOA appears to be owned by the Lazydays RV retailer. They have invested a lot of money into the property and there is lots to see and do. The pool is heated very warm along with the hot tub (since it is winter, it is nice). The office sends out text messages as events are happing, so you are kept ini the loop. I love the fact that it is mimosa hour now and I can have a muffin and mimosa! The BBQ Run restaurant onsite is pretty good and the drinks are cheap, I guess that is normal in the United States (Canadians pay way too much for a drink at dinner). We have only been here for a few days, but I can see why people like to spend the entire season here. The weather has been cool and not great, but next week we will return to seasonable temperatures (warm at 21 deg C / 72 deg F).

Hacienda RV Resort:
https://www.haciendarv.com- Campsite #176 - $65.00 a night (with Goodsam discount).

Paved roads but campsite is gravel, though pretty level. There is a walled in dog park, reminiscent of Trumps wall. We did not walk Cody down in the dog run area as it is kind of creepy and there was a few grassy dog stops we found. We did not unhook the Jeep so we basically just stayed the night and off we went. The campground is nice and the people were very friendly and love dogs. The hot tub looked inviting but we did not havre time to enjoy it. The compound provides you keycards to access the amenities, just don't forget to return them when you leave!

Fort Stockton RV Park:

Close to highway and offers easy access to getting back on the road. This RV park is conveniently located between San Antonio and Las Cruces, giving us a nice 4 hour travel day. The staff at the Roadrunner Cafe were awesome and the food was all home made. I stopped back in at 7:30 PM to buy some of the biscuits they make for the road the next day. If you stay here, try the biscuits, yum!

- Secured campground with 24x7 onsite security.
The staff loved meeting Cody and offered many hugs and kisses. The campground is in an area that is a bit dodgy but the onsite security removes any worries. We felt safe and the campground was large and lots of walking options for Cody. The Compound is not far from the Alamo, you can take a bus (DON'T), use a ride share service (Uber/Lyft), or drive your own car. There is pay parking around the Alamo, but again, it's a big city and the downtown core is a bit dodgy too! Lots of homeless, poverty and drug issues were seen.

- Just steps to the beach on the other side of the sand dunes. Great location, relaxing fun environment.
It's obviously off-season in January but I can imagine how busy the place would be in the summer months. The entire peninsula is narrow and water on each side making this place feel like you are on an island. When we arrived it was overcast and windy, but the sun has come out and the wind is gone. It's time to take Cody for another beach walk.

Baton Rouge KOA:

- In the winter months, the grass goes dormant and they are not seeding winter grass, so everything is dead a muddy. I don't recommend staying here in winter months if you have a dog with you.
We were happy that we were able to rest after a very long drive, however when we arrived we setup and went to bed. In the morning, we packed up and left. We had planned on staying an extra day here so we could venture into New Orleans but the ice storm cut a week off our schedule. We are actually going to miss a few things now to get to Arizona on time.

Red Bay Acres:
https://www.redbayacres.com- Campsite #44
- Lake (frozen)
- Yacht Club - Closed
- Main Office - Closed
- Town on lockdown
Red Bay Acres was the only campground in all of Red Bay that had the water still on during the ice storm. I am glad that we kept our slides in and water disconnected and used the fresh water tanks onboard during the night and in the day we dumped tanks and refilled fresh water. It was not too hard but it allowed us to prevent our water lines from freezing, unlike most others in the area. Almost everyone in the campground left their slides out and water lines exposed to the below freezing temperatures. The campground started to re-open their services on January 21, but I am very happy that we had a nice place to stay with running water. I recommend staying here, if in the area and we will stay here in the future if we come back for service in Red Bay from Tiffin and the local vendors.

The experience is just like staying at a Disney hotel on property, you get a room key for your camp site and get all the perks of staying on property (like early access into the parks). It was nice to see everyone had their campsites decorated in Disney Christmas decorations. The Christmas spirit is in full force here at the Disney parks. If you get the opportunity to camp in Florida, you need to come stay here. Book in advance, like Disney hotels, there is high demand all year long.

St. Augustine Beach KOA:
https://koa.com/campgrounds/st-augustine-beach/- Campsite #??
- Review: It's a very tight turn from the main road onto the side road and onto the property. The only good thing about arriving is that you are off the streets with the crazy drivers and people speeding past you. This has been the first day we have experienced people without patience for a big rig. The campground is not really big rig friendly with a tow vehicle. I asked if we should unhook the Jeep and they said you don't have to — boy were they wrong. There is a steep grade up from the road beside the lagoon onto the campsite. We unhooked the Jeep and were able to level fine. The campsite came with some really dated furniture and items too big for the mini patio area. We reorganized the patio and made it work. If we can help it, we would not stay here again with a big rig as the roads are narrow, hard to turn around and campsites are very narrow. I guess people stay here for the proximity to the beach.

We were in a pull through site, but we needed to unhook the Jeep to get out and navigate a few very tight spots (5 point turn). We had dinner delivered, and the chicken breasts sandwiches were very good. I would have went for a swim as the weather was great, but the pool was not heated.

Savannah South KOA:

- Review: Easy to get in, but when leaving we had to ask the neighbour to move their truck so we could get out. Not a big issue, as the neighbour was very friendly. We realized quickly that we needed to order mosquito repellent from Amazon right away. The skeeters were worse than Saskatchewan! The campground is large and had many seasonal long term residents. There are some pretty awesome swans and birds on the lake. There is a lot of warning signs asking you to stay away from the water due to gators. So we walked the property but stayed back from the water. We decided to do a sightseeing trip into town and see the old south. Savannah is very pretty and walking the old streets along the historical buildings was great. There is a famous candy store that we went into and they welcomed Cody too — I have to say, this was Cody's first candy store and he loved it! They even had a dog bone dipped in pet friendly chocolate! Yum.

- Review: Lovely campground just off the I95 highway. There is two ways to get here from the highway, you just need to take your time and wait for a break in the road if arriving from the north. The campground has some walking paths but they were very clear, do not leave the KOA property as there is a lake and gators. We stuck to the campground walking paths and were very safe. We fed Cody his dinner and then we stopped in for a glass of wine and a pizza. We had the intention of getting the pizza to go, but we indulged in a second glass of wine and ate the pizza there. Yum. The guy who escorted us to our campsite when we arrived said they had the best pizza in town. He also said that they had the only pizza in town, so we set the bar low. Well, the pizza was great, the wine was even better and we ended the night with some special chocolates at the coffee bar. This was by far the nicest surprise at a KOA. Great place, awesome people and we would recommend this campground.

One of our A/C units started making a loud noise so Darrel inspected and deemed we needed a part. Ordered the parts and just had to use the two other A/C units. Not a big deal, but the weather is hot and we have lots of sun. We like to keep the motorhome cool for Cody. He hates the heat, and well, so does Darrel. We took a short drive downtown to see Charleston and I am so glad we did. The city has so much souther charm and lots to see. Charleston has lots to offer, but we only stayed a few hours and made our way back to the motorhome for dinner and to feed Cody. We had a great day sightseeing and enjoying the people we met.

Our campsite was free and clear of large trees so Starlink worked great. We did use the laundry facilities and it was nice to see you could use an app and Apple Pay. Wilmington has lots to offer and has a very large and active gay community. We were welcomed with open arms and met lots of new friends. Thank you Charlene, TR and Paula for a wonderful time. - Review: The campground is next to the theme park and I believe is the same owners. Lots of campsites and many were decorated for Halloween. The theme park was closed during the day but opened at nights for their spooky nights. You could hear kids screaming from the roller coasters in the distance and it was actually nice to hear as you walk the spooky decorated campground. We only stayed one night as we are in a hurry to get to North Carolina to see Charlene and Aida. Our campsite had many trees so we did not setup Starlink. We did not disconnect the Jeep but when we left we had to ask the neighbour to move his truck so we could pull out. The park was sold out so they put us in a smaller spot that really was suited for a 30 foot RV and not a 40 foot one. We also only had 30 amp electric and our all electric motorhome likes 50 amps. We made it work for the one night we were there. We also had a campfire where we cooked hotdogs.

Thank you so much Barbara and Mike for an amazing dinner that rates as one of the best (if not the best) seafood restaurant I have ever been to. There was a booking error on my part and the campground was sold out. The staff were so accommodating and they moved their own motorhome so we had a place to say. Thank you so much! The halloween party was awesome, with costume judging, dog costume judging, campsite decoration judging and trick-or-treating. We went to town and got lots of candy as there was so many kids in the campground, we knew it would be a great evening for handing out candy. We met the IT guy at the campground and we started talking about our starlink and he asked if we tried the KOA wifi. I said no, and he said give it a try. I was so impressed that the KOA had gigabit internet at each site. This KOA has invested a lot of money and time into true high speed internet were you can stream till your hearts content. If you are in the area and it's close to halloween, you need to stay here. I would literally plan my next stay around halloween, it was so much fun. Thanks KOA for an amazing time. We had to move sites (two down) as the first site was not level and we could not safely auto-level the motorhome. The new site was easy for the motorhome to level but road was narrow and when leaving we had to drive though the campsite in front of us, thank goodness the spot was empty when leaving. I would stay here again as it is so close to Magnetic Hill the water park and PEI but I would ask the office to put me on the end site. - Review: $48.00 a night with full hookups however when we arrived, we only had 30 amp power and water. The water was not safe to drink so we just used the power. We always travel with some water for these issues. I was disappointed that we paid for water and sewer only to find out that they only have 1 site with all three services.

West Hawk Lake Campground:

- Review: $23.00 a night with full hookups in a beautiful setting, you cannot go wrong. The campground is inside a Provincial Park and requires you to purchase a vehicle permit for the tow vehicle (not the motorhome as it is stationary) at the cost of $16 for three days. You can purchase a yearly pass if you are staying longer and it is very cheap compared to the federally run National Parks. We are near the end of the camping season here in lake country, therefore we have had the campsite pretty much to ourselves. There is 122 sites nestled around the lake and hills. This area of Manitoba is beautiful and reminds me of parts of BC. Add this campground to your bucket list!

- Review: $45.50 a night with full hookups. The campground is well maintained and has extensive green space for walking Cody. There is a swimming pool, playgrounds, mini golf, sandy volley ball court, walking paths and general store. We were arriving just a few minutes after the office was to close and the staff called us and said they would wait to greet us. I have to say everyone working here loves their jobs and it shows. We felt welcome and the campground was happy to have us. We would stay here again.
Kilton Hill Campground - Saskatchewan

Kilton Hill Campground:
https://swiftcurrentcamping.ca- Review: $40 a night with full hookups but only 30 amp service.
- The owner of the campground had lots of availability so they allowed us to select whatever site we wanted.
- The owner stopped by to collect payment later in the evening. Great farming campground with trust and honestly.
I have to say, I would stay here again, if the season was right. We stayed in the fall during a very dry drought. I had to use the campground water to wash off the windows (and give the motorhome a light bath) as there was 1" of dirt and dust on the Jeep. When you leave the highway, you turn up a long dusty gravel road making your way up the hill. The campground is perched atop the hill and is very windy. All in all, I am recommending to not stay here, due to the excessive dust. If you have a diesel pusher, be sure to idol high when in dusty conditions to keep your air filter clean(er).
Rest and Recuperation Days

Back to Aspen Crossing The campground in Okotoks was booked so we moved back to Aspen Crossing, and Darrel has been doing really well so no nee to be as close to Calgary any longer. Mom,Dad, Susan, Christian, Courtney, Shuantae and Theo came out to check in on Darrel. We enjoyed showing the family the campground, greenhouse, gift shops and we picked up some farm fresh eggs. We met the posse that robs the train, though they said they were the good guys! Family made the rest and recovery days go by so fast. Cody loved all the kisses and treats from his Grandma and Grandpa!
Change of Plans

CHANGE OF PLANS (AGAIN) One thing is for sure, plans are very fluid. We are enjoying the campground in Okotoks as it is so close to Calgary (16 min to be exact) and we can pop-in and out and run errands and visit the Doctor. Darrel had a kidney stone procedure done, so we wanted to be close to his Doctors. Darrel, Cody and I are doing really well and we should be on our way across Canada within the next week.

Parking With The Big Boys
It was a breeze to pull into Camp 'N Class RV Park in Stoney Plain, Alberta. Here we will spend a few days relaxing before we head home to Calgary. Darrel's little brother will be stopping in to see Darrel and Peggy and the new motorhome.

Classy RV Park

- Review: $59.00 a night with full hookups before the Good Sam discount. $2.00 a day pet fee. The campground is well maintained and offers a massage studio where you can book massages. There is bathrooms and laundry on site, but we did not stop to check them out. There is a nice dog park area and if you cross over the bridge, you enter the Rotary Park with ponds, fountains, playground and walking paths. This RV Park is a 4-5 minute walk to groceries, drug store, fast food and anything you may need. Great location.

CALLING HOME FOR A FEW DAYS
Checked in at Happy Trails after our Freightliner visit where Cody enjoyed hugs and kisses from the Western Start staff. The Compound staff were welcoming and were able to extend our stay a few more nights to accommodate Western Start's time line. When searching the web for reviews, I found a post from a retired US military service person where they said they were travelling to Alaska and their rig threw the same code and they had to stay here at Happy Trails for a few days to get serviced. I wonder if the road from Bezanson to GP had something to do with this fault?!?!?Happy Trails Campground & Cabins

- Review: $50.00 a night with full hookups. Nice walking paths and green grass for Cody. There appears to be a very large event space with green grass for days and a walking loop that is awesome for exercising Cody (and us). We are just on the outskirts of GP and we are close to Peggy and shopping. There is a general store on site with ice cream!
Peggy & The Boys

Northern Alberta Here We Come
This will be the first big trip away from home and we are so excited to be going up north to see Peggy (Darrel's Mom) and the Boys (Not Amazon's The Boys) Tyson and Han. The drive up to Whitecourt was easy going and we had no issues with traffic. There was no road construction, just the reduce speed sings and no people working (typical, right?). We checked https://511.alberta.ca for live road conditions and traffic camera updates. All was clear so we decided to follow the big rigs and we made it safe and sound to Whitecourt and avoided Edmonton all together. Our first stop was at the Flying J/Pilot commercial card lock to fuel up and make our way to the campground.

Three times a charm

Food, Friends, Fun and a Lake too!
This was our third trip out in the motorhome and Darrel wanted to experiment with the motorhome oven as it is so different from our double wall ovens at home. Darrel experimented with making a home made cherry pie (with cherries from our back garden), from scratch cinnamon buns and fresh baked bread. The smells coming from our campsite were not your typical campsite aromas. As people walked by, they stopped to comment on the size of our motorhome and then the smell of fresh baked cinnamon buns hit them. Stacy must have smelt them all the way back in Calgary as she decided to drive out for a visit and sample the fresh baking. We decided to take a stroll around the campground and walked over to the lake and there must have been 300 people in and around the water. The water was cool but satisfying as it was 33 degrees out and the sun was relentless. It was nice to catch up with Stacy, share some laughs and discuss Stacy's dreams of going full time like us.Aspen Crossing

- Review: This campground has lots to offer at $70.00 a night with full hookups. Two restaurants and a general store offer lots of food options if the cook wants to take a night off, and they offer delivery to your camp site too! You can rent bikes, go for ice cream, swim in a lake, walk along the paths, visit pigs and chickens, enjoy a train ride (and robbery with a shoot-out too) and lots more to see and do. Aspen Crossing is very popular with young families as there is so much to see and do.

Roughing It Smoothly
This is the slogan for Tiffin Motorhomes, and you can see why. This rig has all the amenities of home, and some. We have got great weather, a few clouds and a nice breeze. We will be watching movies outside under the starts. Cody is loving this camp site.Coyote Creek RV Resort

Happy Retirement Darrel
To celebrate, we have taken the new motorhome out our maiden voyage (yes, this motorhome feels as large as a ship). Two firsts today. Darrel is officially retired and we have taken our first trip with friends. Shae and Russ will be here soon, and help us with any questions we have with our new motorhome.

- Review: Great value for $82.00 a night with full hookups. Nice walking paths, dog park, store, pool and friendly KOA staff. Spot 144 is for motorhomes and faces the river with views of trees and blue sky. This was a great spot for us as the motorhome spots behind us were all pull-through spots but they got to look at the back-side of our motorhome. I am glad we had a pull-In and back-out sport. We will stay here again.
