The tornados have passed and now there is cold weather in the forecast for Alabama. They are saying it will only last a day and things will be back to normal. Let's hope the weather man is right and we have a safe journey up to Alabama.

Tornados and Route Changes

IMG_3076That is us parked on the grass with full hookups. The grass is level and lots of room to park the Jeep.

IMG_3101Tornado watch issues for the county that we would be travelling to the next day (Jennings).

IMG_3094Tornado watch issued for Jennings, where we were to be travelling to in the morning.

IMG_3118Tornado Warning - tornado imminent warning issues, so we stopped our walk and jumped in the Jeep with our go bag and headed to a hotel.

IMG_3102This is what the sky looked like as we grabbed our go bag and left in a rush. It is best to seek shelter and stay in a tornado proof building. Not a coach. We delayed our departure from Ocala and hunkered down for two days in a hotel.

IMG_3104Arriving at the closes hotel just 12 km away.

IMG_3099The tornado touched down on the Florida panhandle and I am glad we did not head up this way. Common sense and putting safety first let us avoid the tornado and stay in central Florida for one more day.

Welcome to Florida & St. Augustine Beach

IMG_1875Crossed the Florida state line and stopped at the state rest stop.

IMG_1877Cute Florida orange dolphin.

IMG_1880Arrived at our campsite, we did not unhook the Jeep as we are only staying one night. We are on an island surrounded by beaches and crazy drivers.

IMG_1883This is the view from our campsite.

  • Review: It's a very tight turn from the main road onto the side road and onto the property. The only good thing about arriving is that you are off the streets with the crazy drivers and people speeding past you. This has been the first day we have experienced people without patience for a big rig. The campground is not really big rig friendly with a tow vehicle. I asked if we should unhook the Jeep and they said you don't have to — boy were they wrong. There is a steep grade up from the road beside the lagoon onto the campsite. We unhooked the Jeep and were able to level fine. The campsite came with some really dated furniture and items too big for the mini patio area. We reorganized the patio and made it work. If we can help it, we would not stay here again with a big rig as the roads are narrow, hard to turn around and campsites are very narrow. I guess people stay here for the proximity to the beach.

Time to Relax (Second Leg) 2462 Miles

IMG_2126After 2,462 miles, we have arrived at our home base for the next few months here in Florida on the Treasure Coast. Today, we have travelled a total of 5,258 miles since leaving Calgary.

IMG_2108Gorgeous site with ample parking for the motorhome and jeep and we have a tiki hut too!

IMG_2162 Lovely palms, shrubs and flowers around the motorhome.

IMG_2142

IMG_2122Nights outside watching TV in the tiki hut.

  • Review: An amazing luxury motorhome resort, near the only dog beach left in Florida. The resort is surrounded by a nature preserve and will never be built on. The pool, clubhouse and grounds are by far the most luxurious in all of the motorhome parks in Florida. It's beautiful here. Come for a visit, you won't want to leave.

Hello Mickey

IMG_1915The dog park is off-leash so Cody can run and enjoy some exercise.

IMG_1914A safety fence and gator warning sign, and this is outside the second dog fence. Disney is making sure there is no gators in the dog park.

IMG_1940Love the creativity of decorating.

IMG_1939Vintage decorations.

IMG_1963Off to Starwars. It was impossible to get a photo without other people in the pic. We were there on a Wednesday and no one was in school. Does anyone in Florida go to school or work?!?!?

IMG_1947Long lines but a very cool ride, so different than most of the other attractions Disney has created. The photos below are from the attraction.

IMG_2057Nice to be here while Disney celebrates 100 years! Classic view as you enter the park.

IMG_2053You have to arrive at Magic Kingdom by boat, monorail or bus from your on-property hotel/campground or parking lot.'

IMG_2087Dole Whip - This is the Florida Orange whip. It was pretty good.

IMG_2084Hello Walt and Mickey!

IMG_2083Happy to be here!

IMG_2079Taking a relaxing ride on the People Mover. This ride was decommissioned in California but nice to see it still here in Florida. This ride was also one of my Grandmothers favourites. Nice to be at a Disney park and remembering my late Grandmother Brown.

IMG_2062Merry Christmas from Disney's Magic Kingdom.

IMG_2058Classic photo opportunity at the front gates and train station.

IMG_2050A boat arriving at Magic Kingdom full of people.

IMG_2081The new Tron ride. The rollercoaster looks pretty awesome, but the lines are nasty.

IMG_2078Yes, bacon on a stick. Don't tell my cardiologist.

  • Review: Arriving at a Disney park is magical and expect nothing different that arriving at this amazing resort and campground in the parks. The experience is just like staying at a Disney hotel on property, you get a room key for your camp site and get all the perks of staying on property (like early access into the parks). It was nice to see everyone had their campsites decorated in Disney Christmas decorations. The Christmas spirit is in full force here at the Disney parks. If you get the opportunity to camp in Florida, you need to come stay here. Book in advance, like Disney hotels, there is high demand all year long.
